Lab reflection -- what I transcribed..
Your lab was well thought out and well done...here's my overview:
What went well:
Good intro, demo, addition of safety and questions
Good demo of the lab procedure

What to improve on:
Define reflection and refraction first
safety assessment
modify lab to go with your materials..a bit confusing
more closure and correlation to concepts of reflection and refraction.

Strengths
The room that is used for science in the school in Ontario is good for experiments. The first thing noticed is the lighting. It is nice and bright and all light bulbs were lit. There are no wheelchair accessible stations.
The heat is from natural gas and has an odor if it leaking. There is also emergency shut offs and long term shut off for summer break.
I did not see a first aid station, so i asked the teacher and he showed me were it was. I asked if students knew were it was and they did.
There are counters, electrical outlets and proper ventilation in the room.There is a sink and water supply, and an eye wash station. There is proper lighting in the room. It has two exits. There is no cylinder gas. Fire drill procedures are posted.

Weaknesses

The room is more like a classroom with some counters around the outer part of the room. The room has ventilation that the teacher says is adequate, but it doesn't seem that way. The lighting is not adjustable. The chemicals are not stored in the room and are locked away but its no in safety cabinets.
There is no shower and the first aid kit is not in plain sight. A new person in class may have a hard time finding it.
There is no dangerous waste containers in the room and no liquid waste containers. There is only a garbage and recycling bin. I did not see a chemical spill kit and when I asked the teacher he said that the custodian takes care of it. There is no fire blanket visible in the room.

My Opinion

In my opinion the room is safe for a high school. I would feel comfortable doing simple high school experiments in that room. For the experiments I have seen there was no build up smoke, fumes, smells and other odors. The students are also comfortable and know where the safety items are.

Conclusion

This room need a bit of updating to meet proper standards although for what it is used for it is fine. There are no major experiments being done. I would allow the school to keep classes going with promise of adding a few of the weaknesses mentioned above.
